After I made my first Sheridan Sweater, I decided that I want to have a dress version since I love the neckline so much!
Thank you, Adrianna, for the free pattern.
My original plan for this dress was to have elasticated sleeves, but I ended up choosing the bell sleeves since this fabric didn’t have enough drape.
Even though the bell sleeves are not my favorite kind of sleeves, I am happy with the result.
Pattern: SHERIDAN SWEATER DRESS LENGTH ADD-ON, View B with bell sleeves
Pattern Description:
The Sheridan Dress is a shaped sheath style dress with ease through the body for a comfortable yet stylish fit. It looks great over opaque tights with heels or as a more casual dress with sneakers. The adventurous sewist could also use this free pattern to make a sheath dress from other top patterns, such as the Union St. Tee, Lane Raglan, or Halifax Hoodie.
The pattern includes instructions for a full bust adjustment and adjusting the length of the dress.
Sizing: Sizes 2 – 22
Difficulty: Confident Beginner Difficulty
Fabric Used: Hot pink rayon double knit from Fabric Mart
Does it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern? No, it’s because of my fabric choice. If I have chosen the fabric that has more drape, I think it would look like the pattern picture
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes
Dislikes: none
Pattern alterations or any design changes made: shorten 2.5″ to raise hip and add 2.5″ at right above the hem to adjust proportion. (I am short-waisted)
Also, as I mentioned above, this fabric doesn’t have enough drape; my dress looked so bulky. I added back darts to create a flattering look.
Would I sew it again? If I find the perfect fabric, yes!
Would I recommend it to others? Yes, definitely
